My photography is influenced by my studies and experiences from my social work.I progressed from being a counsellor to becoming a spectator with a critical eye. My work has become a collaboration with the society in which I live, often using the power of chance.

Some of my pictures are intimate and full of emotions, some can be intimidating because of the themes that I will not shy away from, such as death in strange forms in humans, animals and in nature.The location where the photographs were taken is of no importance; of more relevance is people's outlook on their lives. As a trained photographer I am even more encouraged by the decline of the writing culture and the emergence of a more visual culture, and I feel almost compelled to show professionally enhanced images.

 

With my pictures I am attempting not just to evoke a response from the observer, but I also want to stir their emotions and awareness. Through my veins flows the blood of different cultures; Dutch, Indonesian, Portuguese, Swiss and Belgian. As a consequence it is hardly surprising that I am particularly interested in lifestyles within different cultures. One perfect image can capture the tragedy of a life or the joy of the moment, offering recognition and perhaps new insights.
 

Paintings

 

 

My own style of painting remains a quest, which is influenced by the abstract expressionist style; using paint brushes, which they wielded in the academies, then using the palette knife and moving on to action painting with my hands.

Direct contact with the surface reflects the feel of energetic motion.  Forms are wild and the use of colours, deep and intense.  In my choice of materials I select colour patches and the theme has always something to do with Indonesia.

 

Art Social Projects

War and art

Through my experiences in working with war victims and people with post-traumatic stress syndrome I know that creativity provides a vital source of stress relief. I was asked by various institutions to participate in art projects and set up an art centre. As a result I became an artist for Jewish institutions, where various Arab counselors were working and I was responsible for design, implementation and creative guidance of therapists / counselors and the working disabled people. I specialize in intangible assistance to 1st and 2nd generation war victims. Therefore I feel the need to put my skills into the social sphere.

 

Street art

Collaboration in the arts is essential to get in touch with society. With artists, shopkeepers, people in the street, municipalities and other interested parties, I create something beautiful, so that the process and the importance of art is visible in society.

Fotografie Documentaire - Kunst - Portretten

 

Mijn studie en ervaringen vanuit mij maatschappelijk werk heb ik meegenomen in mijn fotografie. Als adviseur werd ik een toeschouwer met een kritisch oog. Het is uitgegroeid tot een samenwerking met de maatschappij waarin ik leef en vaak met de kracht van het toeval. Soms zijn mijn foto's intiem en vol van emoties en soms worden ze intimiderend als gevolg van de thema's waarvoor ik niet wegren, zoals dood in vreemde vormen van mens, dier en natuur.

 

Waar de foto's werden genomen, is irrelevant, maar de manier waarop mensen worden geconfronteerd in hun leven is des te belangrijker. Door de daling van interesse in de schrijvende cultuur en de opkomst van een meer visuele cultuur, ben ik als fotograaf nog meer aangemoedigd en deels gedwongen professionele verbeterde beelden tonen.

 

Met mijn foto's probeer ik niet alleen vragen opte roepen bij de kijker, maar wil ik ook emoties en bewustzijn roeren.

In mijn aderen stroomt het bloed van verschillende culturen, Nederlands, Indonesisch, Portugees, Zwitserse en Belgische. Niet verwonderlijk natuurlijk dat vooral de levensstijl binnen culturen mijn interesse heeft.

 

Die ene afbeelding kan de tragedie van het leven en de vreugde van het moment vast te leggen. Het geeft herkenning en kan een nieuw inzicht creëren.

 

Schilderijen  

 

Het vinden van mijn eigen stijl in mijn manier van schilderen blijft een zoektocht in de abstract expressionistische stijl. Begonnen met penselen, die ik hanteerde op de academies, ben ik overgegaan tot het schilderen met mijn handen. Door het directe contact met het oppervlak, voel ik een energieke beweging. De vormen zijn wild en het gebruik van kleuren, dieper en intenser. Bij de keuze van materialen, kleurvlakken is altijd wel iets dat te maken heeft met Indonesië.    

 

Sociale Projecten

Oorlog en kunst

 

Door mijn ervaring in het werken met oorlogslachtoffers en mensen met post-traumatische stress-syndroom, weet ik dat creativiteit in de verandering verlicht. Zo werd ik gevraagd door verschillende instellingen om deel te nemen aan kunstprojecten en het opzetten van een kunstcentrum. Hier was ik ik verantwoordelijk voor het ontwerp, de implementatie en de creatieve leiding van therapeuten / begeleiders en de werkende mensen met een handicap. Ik ben gespecialiseerd in immateriële hulp aan 1e en 2e generatie oorlogsslachtoffers en wil daarom voel ik mijn vaardigheden zijn ook nodig in de sociale sfeer te zetten.  

 

Straatkunst

 

Samenwerking in de kunst is van essentieel belang om in contact met de samenleving te komen. Met kunstenaars, winkeliers, mensen in de straat, gemeenten en geïnteresseerden maak ik iets moois, zodat het proces en het belang van de kunst zichtbaar wordt in de samenleving.
